Sunday Salon: Vacation and Awards

You can see other Sunday Salon posts and join in on the fun at The Sunday Salon.

Vacation Week:

Oh how I love February vacation! I’ve been on vacation the past week and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. At the beginning of vacation, my sister and I took her boys skiing for the first time ever – it was our first time too! I took 2 skiing lessons and had a great time. I was TERRIBLE at it (I am very nonathletic) but I had so much fun. My sister caught on very quickly and my 2 nephews did great on snowboarding!

I also had lots of time to catch up on some reading of blogs and books. So far I’ve finished 3 books during vacation and I’m very quickly reading a fourth.

Big, Huge Thank You’s:

I’m really bad at awards. I’ve been given an award from 2 bloggers and I’m behind in sending out my thanks.

The award is the  Beautiful Blogger Award from Dogear Diary and Socrates’ Book Reviews.

The rules of the Beautiful Blogger award are to pass it on to other beautiful bloggers and tell seven things about yourself.

1. I have 2 chocolate labs (that is Sara in my header. Tessa has competed in agility and Sara competes in Rally. Sara is also a Therapy Dog. They both think they are lap dogs.

2.I love fun socks! I have socks with crazy stripes, chocolate labs, penguins, etc. I even have a special pair that I wear when I’m sick.

3. I love the television show Lost. I can’t wait to see how it ends, but I also don’t want to see it end.

4. I love popcorn! My favorite popcorn is from Yoderpopcorn.com. Yes, I special order my popcorn.

5. I eat a lot. No, I really do. I’m a very small person, but I can out eat most people. When I had 2 of my wisdom teeth removed, the worst part for me was the fact that I couldn’t get enough food into my body while it was initially healing.

6. I love musicals! Some of my favorites: Avenue Q, Chicago, Hairspray, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Lion King.

7. I hate shopping for clothes. Once I find something I like, I buy it in a couple of colors so I don’t have to shop anymore.

I am so grateful for all the bloggers who stop by and comment, even though I’m not the most consistent blogger. Thanks so much for reading and commenting! Blogs I’m passing the award to:

I’m ready to go curl up with my book for a bit. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and have a great week!

Sunday Salon: A New Routine

TSSbadge1

My new routine… Well school has officially started for me. The kids don’t come back until Wednesday, but the teachers had meetings everyday this past week and this coming  Monday and Tuesday. This week I hardly did any reading! I am enjoying the books I have started, I am just having trouble adjusting to my new routine.

During the summer I love to read blogs, post some comments, and read a few chapters of my books first thing in the morning. Now I need to find a new routine to do that. Mornings are just not possible since I leave for work around 6:30. I am going to try to really stick to not bringing home too much work each night so that I can curl up with my books and enjoy a few chapters. I also will be trying to keep up reading and commenting on all the wonderful blogs I enjoy so much.

An award… A huge THANK YOU goes out to Sheila over at One Person’s Journey Through a World of Books. She passed on the Humane Award to me.

The Humane Award is to honor certain bloggers that I feel are kindhearted individuals. They regularly take part in my blog and always leave the sweetest comments. If it wasn’t for them, my site would just be an ordinary book review blog. Their blogs are also amazing and are tastefully done on a daily basis. I thank them and look forward to our growing friendships through the blog world.

I recently passed this award on just a couple of weeks ago so instead of passing it on again, I’m just going to say thanks and ask readers to stop by Sheila’s blog and check it out. It’s really a great blog!

I’m also setting up a blog award page similar to Amanda’s blog award page over at The Zen Leaf. I like how she organized all her awards. And I think that makes it easier for other people to check out the pages of the blogs that sent me the awards.

Off to read… I’m heading over to my chair to curl up with the books I’m currently reading:

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Sunday Salon – A Busy Week!

TSSbadge1

How did it get to be Sunday already? I never even had time to finish last week’s Sunday Salon! This week was busy with traveling, company, winning a book, and some awards.

Traveling and company: On the spur of the moment I went down to my parents’ house for a quick visit that ended up being an extra day or two! We had so much fun. Then, after I got back home, my cousin and her two kids came up to my house on a spur of the moment decision. We had a blast going to Festival of Fools and playing outside. Now, I am getting caught up on blog reading, reading books, and Sunday Salon.

What to read next? I’m looking forward to my visit to the library tomorrow. I need to pick up some more books for this week. My original plan was to go to the bookstore to buy The Strain this week. But earlier in the week I had a nightmare about vampires (I’ve recently read 2 vampire books). I think my brain is telling me to take a  break from the vampires. That means I get to choose some books from the library. I might grab some more books from the DCF shelf so I can read more from that list.  So far I’ve read 7 out of 30 books.

Tessa, one of my chocolate labs, if looking forward to some reading time this week. Last week was so busy I didn’t get to sit on the deck and read at all! Reading on the deck for me means fetch time for Tessa! The longer I read, the longer she gets to play! Now that we are not traveling and we don’t have company, I know I’ll be able to sit on the deck and read.

I won a book this week! I won a copy of Julie and Julia from Laura over at I’m Booking It. I am so excited to win that book because I really want to read it. Thanks Laura!

This week, I have 2 awards to post.

humane_award_logoFirst is the Humane Award from Laura over at I’m Booking It. Laura actually gave this to me quite awhile ago and I’m just now getting to posting about it. So sorry Laura! I do really appreciate it. The Humane Award is to honor certain bloggers that I feel are kindhearted individuals. They regularly take part in my blog and always leave the sweetest comments. If it wasn’t for them, my site would just be an ordinary blog. Their blogs are also amazing and are tastefully done on a regular basis. I thank them and look forward to our growing friendships through the blog world.

I would like to pass this award on to the following people:

  1. Amanda from The Zen Leaf
  2. Dar from Peeking Between the Pages
  3. Alyce from At Home With Books

zombie_chicken_awardThe next award is such a fun one! It is the Zombie Chicken Award from Amanda over at The Zen Leaf. The blogger who receives this award believes in the Tao of the zombie chicken – excellence, grace and persistence in all situations, even in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. These amazing bloggers regularly produce content so remarkable that their readers would brave a raving pack of zombie chickens just to be able to read their inspiring words. As a recipient of this world-renowned award, you now have the task of passing it on to at least 5 other worthy bloggers. Do not risk the wrath of the zombie chickens by choosing unwisely or not choosing at all…

This award really makes me smile. I would like to pass this onto the following blogs:

  1. Laura from I’m Booking It
  2. Sheila at One Person’s Journey Through a World of Books
  3. Gautami Tripathy at Everything Distils into Reading
  4. Jeane at DogEar Diary
  5. Jenners at Find Your Next Book Here

Award

lets-be-freinds-award What a nice surprise to wake up the other morning and find this award! I won this from Sheila over at One Person’s Journey Through a World of Books. Make sure you stop by and say hi to Sheila at her awesome blog. 🙂

Blogs that receive the Let’s Be Friends Award are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and befriends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers.

I’d like to pass this award onto the following:

  1. Laura from I’m Booking It
  2. Dar from Peeking Between the Pages
  3. Alyce from At Home With Books
  4. Mary from Bookfan-Mary
  5. Amanda from The Zen Leaf
