I Love My NOOK!

Back in January, I jumped into the e-book world. I was a bit nervous but I’m so glad I did it! I love my NOOKcolor. I can’t get over how much I love using it. There were two things I worried about before buying the NOOK: would it be hard on my eyes and would I be too distracted by the device to enjoy the books.

First, I have to tell you that reading on my NOOK is easier on my eyes than reading a regular book. I love how easy it is to adjust the size of the font, the line spacing, the background color, font color, and the font itself.ย  Just tap the center of the screen and the font menu pops up. It can’t be any easier than that!

Next, I was amazed how quickly I forgot I was reading on an e-reader and just lost myself in the story. The e-reader started to feel very natural after just a few pages.

Some of the features that I love are the highlight/notes and dictionary look up. When reading, it’s so easy to mark a passage that you want to come back to. Click on the start of the passage, drag the highlight with your finger. You’ve just highlighted! You can then tap on NOTES and type in a note that connects to that highlighted passage. I can’t believe how often I’ve used the dictionary look up. If you come to a word you want to look up, you just press on it and tap on the LOOK UP option.

I’m still in the process of reading a bunch of “real books” for the Books on the Nightstand retreat in April, but I can’t wait to get back to my NOOK. I think this weekend I’ll be treating myself to a new e-book. I just need to decide which book to get!

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and suggestions in the process of getting my new toy. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I’m so glad it’s worked out so well for you Nan! ๐Ÿ™‚

On my iphone, I have a dictionary application, and I look stuff up on it all the time. It’s amazing how wonderful an easy-to-reference digital dictionary can be!

  2. I am so glad to hear you love your nook! I love mine too but poor me, I have only black and white. I want the Nook Color so bad but since I have a nook and a Kindle already, well I have to find a darn good reason to get the color. That reason for my husband of course not me. Wait until you read a “real” book and find yourself going to swipe or click to turn the page. That’s when you know you are addicted. LOL

  3. I’m so glad you like your new best friend. I will be resistant to the end, although we just bought a notebook thingy yesterday and it can be used as an ereader, so we’ll see.
    Happy reading ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I have a Kindle 2 and I love it to pieces. The only thing I miss is the ability to download ebooks from the library and oh, there’s the fact that I don’t care for Amazon but I love the devide itself.

I love the Nook for its features, but I don’t like touchscreen. I am weird that way and that’s probably why I won’t be getting an iPhone when my contract it up next month.

But, regardless of what device you have, don’t you just love the portability and ease of downloading? I am in love with the idea that I can download a book anywhere, anytime. I love that!
